Techniques Explained

Visceral Manipulation

My rising specialty technique, Visceral Manipulation (VM) wakes up organ muscle. Specific training is required and applied for this subtle, yet effective massage approach. Often, back pain may stem from a twisted colon or tight peritoneum (abdominal lining.) Gallbladder immobility may cause right shoulder pain. Closed sphincters may cause constipation. A tight stomach may feel like “knots in your stomach.” VM is effective, slow and gentle manipulation done directly on the skin without use of lotion. It may be performed in the thoracic, abdominal or pelvic cavity. Clients may notice a varied range of body changes, sometimes for days afterward, as the visceral tissue continues to innately correct itself once awakened.

Medical Massage Approach

Simply means directing our results toward a pre-existing diagnosis; it is an outcome-based massage. This could include relieving low back pain, headaches, numbness or tingling, thoracic outlet and carpal tunnel symptoms, and supporting proper lymphatic drainage, as well as others. Choose Therapeutic Massage when scheduling your session, and add a specific diagnosis or complaint in the notes. *Please be advised some diagnosis may require a written doctor’s release before proceeding with massage.

Neuromuscular Therapy, TP, & DT

this technique addresses adhesions in the muscle and rebalances muscle length. It is often accompanied by passive or active movement during your session which adds to the effectiveness of muscle restoration. Neuromuscular Therapy is one technique of Therapeutic and Medical Massage.

Trigger Point Therapy is a pin-pointed way to address adhesion in the musculoskelatal system. This may be accompanied by referred pain; i.e. working on the neck may be felt in the temple as a pricking sensation. This is because the body is connected through many different systems, including fascia.

Deep Tissue is similar to Swedish Massage, except addresses the deeper layers of muscle. These techniques may also be used in a Therapeutic Massage.
